Poway Unified officials on Monday announced that Abraxas High School Principal Ron Garrett has been tapped to take over for Fisher next year, pending school board approval. Fisher, who recently received the Mayor's Award from Poway Mayor Don Higginson— announced his retirement earlier this school year, saying he'll leave with "mixed emotions."

"I think probably the fear of departing something that's been so much a part of my life for so long and it's been successful and it's been here in a community that has embraced me very well," he said.

Fisher has led Poway High since 1999.

Several Titan seniors have received awards recently: Matthew Kelly won a $5,000 scholarship from the Don Diego Scholarship Foundation; Jessica Taylor won a $250 Continuing Education Scholarship from the Palomar Council PTA; and Abraham Ma was awarded a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship.
