Calling All Poway Campers! It's Time to Register

Get your kids off the couch and out of your hair at a local camp this summer.

While school-age children look forward to summer from the second day of school on, parents are usually not as enthusiastic about the prospect of unsupervised minors running amok for two-plus months.  Instead of shipping them off to a relative or pay for extended babysitting, try these local day camps and summer camps.

Children entering grades 1-5 will enjoy a “traditional camp experience,” including hikes, crafts, games, adventures and more.  A typical day will start with a game of "Blitz" and end with an afternoon campfire.  Registration is open now, and fees range from $155-$1165 per week, depending on age and days attended per week.

Camp activities will include swimming, hiking, boating, fishing, arts and crafts games, and more.   Additionally, campers will attend field trips to the beach, museums, baseball games and other fun summer venues.  Fee details and dates will be available later this month.

Campers will get the chance to experience a range of performing arts, such as dance, choreography, singing and acting, culminating in a costumed performance at the Vincent Paul Black Box Theatre in Scripps Ranch.  Musical Theatre Dance Camp themes include Best of Broadway, Pop Stars ROCK, Angelina & YOUR Ballerina, and Pixar LIVE.  Additionally, older children (age 10-19) can audition for intensive programs in ballet, jazz and modern dance. Fees are $300 per week, and registration is open now.

Little ones age 3-5 will be exposed to a variety of dance, music and art, plus games such as dancing fairies and a dancing bubble machine that will transport little princesses to Ariel's world under the sea.  Families are encouraged to see their little dancer's progress each Friday at a mini-show.  Fees are $160, and registration is open now.

Broadway babies of all ages are invited to learn the performing arts at the CYT’s summer camps.   The Poway location (Cornerstone Church) will offer the “Pirates and Princesses” program for ages 5-12, in which campers will learn and perform a variety of swashbuckling pirate songs; and the “Glee” program for ages 10-14, featuring advanced vocal programs and challenging choreography.  Fees are $185 ($159 early-bird discount until May 2), and registration is open now.
