Escondido Man Dies In Poway Crash on Pomerado Road

A one-car crash on Pomerado Road killed an Escondido man Wednesday morning, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.

A 52-year-old man was driving a 2004 Nissan Sentra northbound on Pomerado Road at around 8 a.m. when it veered onto the sidewalk and struck a brick wall running along the east side of the roadway, authorities said. 

According to the Sheriff's Department, the vehicle struck a metal pole on the sidewalk and skidded back into the northbound lanes near the 13200 block of Pomerado Road.

The man was non-responsive and was wearing his seatbelt when Sheriff's Deputies and the Poway Fire Department arrived. 

The Escondido resident was transported to Pomerado Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Poway Sheriff's Department said the crash is still under investigation.
