  • La Mesa-Mount Helix, CA

Paul, a longtime resident of La Mesa, traces his family's history here to the 1950s around St. Andrews Episcopal Church, and he's a local graduate from elementary school to college. Paul works for Elsevier Inc., a science, technology and medical publisher. He's also been teaching the trade for more than 10 years via the Extension campus of University of California at San Diego.

His passion for weather recording reaches back to second grade, when he kept track of conditions for his classmates and teachers.

Though his degree and practice are in journalism (dating to the early 1980s as an award-winning morning carrier for The San Diego Union), he remains active within his minor of meteorology. Paul has been associated with multiple weather-recording stations since 1990, including those from Grossmont College, San Diego State University, and San Jose State University. In April 2007, he established his own data-collection station (Station Pabloco: SDLAM) and had it certified in February 2008 by the National Weather Service as the city's official source.

Off the clock, Paul enjoys spending time with Barbara (his wife of more than eight years), tending to their gang of animals (Sophie, Chloe and Jackson), working on his home and car, and swimming long distances and in open water (as a member of the La Jolla Cove Swim Club). He regularly trains at the Kroc Aquatics Center on University Avenue.
