Volunteers Needed for Ronald McDonald House's Red Shoe Day

This week's Poway Gives Back includes red shoes, a bit of madness and backpacks.

VOLUNTEER TO GIVE BACK

Red Shoe Day, a fund-raising event that supports the work of the San Diego Ronald McDonald House, is Wednesday, Sept. 28. More than 1,000 “Street Team” volunteers are needed to gather cash donations in iconic size-14 red shoes at major intersections and roadside locations throughout San Diego County from 6:30 – 9:30 a.m. Ronald McDonald House Charities is looking for volunteer teams from Poway to staff the following intersections:

  • Twin Peaks Road/Community Road
  • Poway Road/Community Road
  • Poway Road/Pomerado Road
  • Scripps Poway Parkway/Pomerado Road
  • Scripps Poway Parkway/Community Road
  • Poway Road/Saber Springs Parkway

You're encouraged to assemble a team of your friends, put on crazy clothes and wigs, make lots of noise, and collect a “boot-load” of contributions. Area businesses are encouraged to put a red shoe in their lobby or high traffic area. Sign up to participate at redshoeday@rmhcsd.org or call 858-598-2456.

CALLING ALL CARS!

Motorhead Madness, the 10th annual classic car show event, organized by Soroptimist International of Poway to raise funds for their transitional housing program, is Saturday, Sept. 17th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are still looking for classic cars for the show. The event will showcase some of the region's most beautiful wheels. Trophies for the winners in a number of classes. PATCH IS ON A MISSION

Do you know a Powegian “under 30”, who is making a difference. Patch is on a mission to honor 30 under-30 San Diego County leaders. Check out this for more information.

GIVING BACKPACKS

I mentioned it here a few weeks ago. The Rotary Club of Poway has begun delivering backpacks with supplies to PUSD elementary schools for their low-income students. First stop: Garden Road Elementary. Check out our members in the photo.
