Sheriff's Department Seeks Canned Goods for Food Bank Donation

Organized by the Senior Volunteer Patrol, they're looking for more canned goods donations by Monday.

If the way to a person’s heart is through his or her stomach, the Senior Volunteer Patrol (SVP) should be doing just fine in the love department.

Partnering with the Poway , they’re gathering canned goods to give to the San Diego Food Bank. So far they’ve collected about two oil drums worth of food and are looking for more.

They’ll be taking donations in the lobby of the sheriff’s station until 5 p.m. Friday and starting again on Monday before the Food Bank makes their scheduled pick up between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

“But if we got donations even after that, I would make a point of taking the donations and delivering them myself,” said Marie Allin, an SVP member for nine years.

Last year, SVP members took part in the Poway Unified School District’s Adopt-a-Family program. Allin says she likes planning an annual holiday action the group can do collectively.
