'Bras for the Cause' Winners Announced

This week's Poway Gives Back includes opportunity awards for women, tunes and eggrolls.

BRAS FOR THE CAUSE WINNERS ANNOUNCED

's “Bras for the Cause” competition is over. The winners are: Alison Lazarga, in the adult division, and Julie Hume and Carlie Lepore, tied in the 18 and under division. The winners received a gift basket with “pink” items, including pink headphones, fuzzy slippers, gift cards and more. More than $350 was raised and donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Soroptimist International of Poway is looking for its next “Making a Difference for Women” award recipients. Two awards will be presented. The first is the Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Award. It will be given to a woman who can use the grant of $1,000 to continue her education and enhanced employment opportunities. The second award is the Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award. It honors young women, between the ages of 14 and 17, who volunteer in the community and are committed to making the world a better place. The award winner will receive $500, with an additional $500 going to the organization of her choice. For information on how to be considered, visit the chapter's website

SAVE THE DATE

Poway Patch is hosting the first , in support of Palomar Pomerado Health's Women's Center for Health and Healing. It's on Sunday in Old Poway Park and features six hours of live music, opportunity drawings, face painting and more beginning at 2 p.m. It's free but Patch will be collecting donations to support local cancer patients. Your hosts will be Deputy Mayor Jim Cunningham and Grammy Award Winner Steve Vaus. For more information check out Patch's calendar.
