Rotarians Roll Up Their Sleeves for the Senior Center

The Rotary Club of Poway spent a recent Saturday working on the senior center's kitchen.

Members of the spent the morning of Saturday, April 28, at the ripping out old cabinets and preparing and painting the kitchen area to make room for new cabinets. It was all part of the annual Rotarians at Work Day, where Rotary Clubs all over the world take on projects to help in the community in the spirit of “service above self.” Nearby, the RB Noon club painted in Rancho Bernardo Community Park, and RB Sunrise did clean-up work at PoVa Therapeutic Riding Center in Poway.

TEEING OFF FOR EDUCATION

If you’ve noticed a larger crowd than usual as you passed the today, you were seeing the first Midland Educational Foundation Charity Golf Classic. Money raised in today’s event will help support basic curriculum needs at that are no longer funded by the state due to budget cuts. The four-person scramble ends in a dinner at the club this evening.

PRESSURE CHECK

High blood pressure is sometimes called the “silent killer.” It’s a natural part of aging, according to my doctor, but it should be kept in check. is offering free blood pressure check ups in the lobby of the hospital from noon to 2 this Tuesday, May 8. Walk-ins are welcome, and no registration is required. The hospital is located at 15615 Pomerado Rd. Free blood pressure tests will be offered on the second Tuesday of each month.
