Poway Walmart Hosting Wellness Expo 2012

The parking lot of the Poway Walmart will be transformed into a health fair on Sept. 8

The focus will be on interactive health, beauty, wellness and fitness at the Poway Walmart Wellness Expo 2012 on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot. Walmart and Soroptimist International of Poway, in partnership with Lifestyles INFOCUS, plan to fill the parking lot with 50-plus exhibitors promoting health, beauty, wellness and environmental sustainability. On hand you’ll find wellness specialists, the latest products, screenings and the newest wellness and fitness techniques.

There will also be demonstrations of Zumba dance, kick boxing, martial arts and more. The event benefits the Poway Soroptimist Club and its mission to improve the lives of women and girls and help families escaping domestic violence. For more information contact April Mitchell at (858) 344-0855.

BIG WIN FOR JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT
Congratulations to Junior Achievement of San Diego and Imperial Counties, who won a 2012 Metlife Foundation Sowing the Seeds of Entrepreneurship Award and a $10,000 grant for its Care Abuse Resistance Education program. CARE trains high school students on how to manage their credit cards and credit card debt. Through the award, Junior Achievement and Metlife Foundation hope to promote the growth of the program, provide financial support for its innovation and encourage entrepreneurial spirit. The foundation only gives up to five awards of $10,000 to JA operations around the world. The latest were announced at the JA USA National Leadership Conference in July.

PATCH AND JCC ROLL UP THEIR SLEVES
The American Red Cross reports they have only half the amount of readily available blood in their inventory as they had at this time last year. So, La Jolla Patch and the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center are hosting a blood drive on Friday, Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the center, which is located at 4126 Executive Dr. in La Jolla. Patch will be sweetening the deal by handing out sweet treats to donors at the event. Make an appointment by visiting the American Red Cross online. You can also call Michelle Poppe at 858-245-1540.
You can also donate closer to home at Tuesday from 8 a.m. To 1 p.m. on the school's basketball court. Call for an appointment at (858) 748-5900. You'll have to bring your own sweets.
