Poway Gives Back: A Taste of The Country

The month-long Poway Days continues Friday and Saturday with the 41st Annual Poway Rodeo.

By Bill Stoudenmire

It was a good crowd at the Poway Valley Riders Association Grounds Saturday evening for the Poway Days event “Taste of the Country,” sponsored by the Poway Chamber of Commerce.

Country band Kanan Road performed and got everyone dancing. There was wine tasting and food trucks with plenty of barbeque and deserts.

Mini Golf for Good

It's back and it's Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Temple Adat Shalom, 15905 Pomerado Road. Give back and have fun doing it. Two unique 18-hole courses will be set up to play. They're unique because each hole is created by a sponsor to suit their individual personality. For instance, a plumber may have you putt into a toilet bowl, or a realtor might have you putt around a doll house.

There will be a family-friendly session beginning at noon on Sunday, and then one for 21 and over beginning at 5. The entry fee is $5 and will support the San Diego Civic Dance Arts Association as well as the temple's Men's Club. The website is www.minigolfforgood.org.

Tails a Waggin'

The Escondido Humane Society's 20th annual Tails at Twilight is Saturday, Oct.12 at Vintana in the Lexus Center of Escondido, 1205 Auto Park Way. It's one of EHS' biggest fundraisers of the year. This year's goal is to break last year's record of over $100,000 so they can continue to shelter over 6,400 animals per year. Some 300 attendees are expected with 20-50 four-legged buddies.

Tickets are being sold in advance only. General admission is $125 or $1,250 for a table of 10. VIP tickets are $225 or $2,250 for a table of 10. There will be hors d'oeuvres for both two and four-legged guests, a silent auction, dinner and entertainment by comedian Elayne Boosler, who is herself involved in animal rescue and advocacy. Details are at www.escondidohumanesociety.org.
