Give Back to the Homeless

The "City in the Country" is not immune to the problem of homelessness. Poway Councilwoman Merrilee Boyack has begun collecting giftcards and donations to help the homeless in our community. Donations can be dropped off on Merrilee's “Magic Porch” (aka: her home) at 14418 Crestwood Avenue in Poway.

PNEC Progress

Not busy enough, Boyack is also the drive behind the Poway Neighborhood Emergency Corps, whose mission is to organize and train community leaders all over the city to provide emergency response to residents and business owners in situations such as another wildfire. They’ve organized the city into 60 communities, each with a volunteer leader who will be a resource and make sure all neighbors are accounted for. Since the organizational meeting we mentioned in a late-January blog, 42 of the 60 communities now have at least one volunteer. PNEC has also launched use of a free, private social networking site (NextDoor.com) to foster communication and help you get to know your neighbors. Learn more and volunteer at PowayNEC.com.
