Poway Firefighters to Take Part in Burn Run
Fire crews from all over the county will head to the Del Mar Fair for the Fire Expo.
Save the date! Saturday, June 16 is the annual San Diego Burn Run and Fire Expo. If you’ve never witnessed this amazing display you’re in for a treat. For the past year, fire stations all over San Diego have been raising money, through T-shirt sales and other events, in support of the San Diego Burn Institute and its Camp Beyond the Scars, a camp for child and adolescent burn survivors.
On this day, engines from all the San Diego fire stations parade, with lights flashing, to the Del Mar Fairgrounds, where checks will be presented to the institute. Afterward, the Fire Expo runs from 10-6 at the fair, in the Chevrolet Del Mar Arena.
Again this year, the Rotary Club of Poway will be up at “0-dark-30” to serve a continental-style breakfast to Station 2 in Poway, 14322 Pomerado Rd., who will be heading out to join the parade around 8:30. Last year the event raised over $200,000 for the institute, with about $4,000 coming from Poway.

DADS AND DOGS
The Escondido Humane Society is holding an adoption event just in time for Fathers Day. The EHS will be on-site at Lexus of Escondido, 1205 Auto Park Way, Sunday, June 10, with adorable, adoptable animals from noon to 2 p.m. You could find the love of your life! Bring the kids and your pets for a free 5X7 digital Fathers Day portrait from Sandra Kay Photography. Adopt a pet and get a free digital 8X10 family portrait with your new family member. Music, free refreshments and prize drawings will be featured at the event. Test drive a Lexus between now and June 10 and get in a drawing to win the use of a Lexus for Fathers Day weekend. June is also Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat month at the EHS. Adopt a cat (or dog or bunny) and received a 50 percent discount on adoption fees in June.

CONCERT UNDER THE STARS
It will be a night of entertainment, culinary delights, wine tasting and silent auctions, all to raise money for the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation at Humphreys on Shelter Island, Thursday, June 14 from 6 to 10 p.m. Anisha Nicole, daughter of Tony and Alicia Gwynn, will perform. There will be opportunities to purchase Tony Gwynn memorabilia.
