Make a Wish Come True for Local Teen

CBeyond will host a fundraiser for a local teen fighting a rare form of cancer.

CBEYOND ASKS POWEGIANS TO HELP GIVE BACK

Cbeyond, Inc., a leading provider of business IT and communications services, announced this week it will host a soccer tournament benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego on Friday, Oct. 21, at in Poway. Titled “Kicking for Wishes," the purpose of the event is to raise funds to adopt the wish of 16-year-old Kimberly, who is bravely battling Synovial Cell Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. A passionate soccer fan, Kimberly's wish is to travel to England to attend a game featuring her favorite team, Manchester United, and meet her favorite player, Javier “Chicharito” Hemandez. Four teams, composed of Cbeyond employees, friends and family will compete to raise at least $1000 per team from donations and sponsorships. PLIE FOR PINK

The fight against breast cancer continues with . The local workout studio is launching “Plie for Pink”, a campaign where 100 percent of the proceeds will go to fight the cause. So you know, a “plie” is a ballet movement involving the bending of the knee (I had to look it up). For $25, each confirmed class attendee will receive a 55-minute Xtend Barre workout session, an Xtend Barre Pink Ribbon tank top and a bracelet. Sign up by calling 760-515-2805.

RED SHOES FILLED

Wednesday was another successful Red Shoe Day in San Diego County as more than 1,000 volunteers, including 6 in Poway, raised $74,735 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. The donations were collected on intersections and roadsides throughout the region by volunteers sporting iconic size-14 red shoes which they used to gather the loot.

SPONSOR POWAY'S FUTURE LEADERS

The Poway Community Leadership Institute is looking for sponsors to send “budding” leaders to its all day workshop on Oct. 12 in the Council Chambers. . By making a $50 donation, you could help Poway's future city leader. Attendees will learn how the city runs and hopefully discover where they fit in.
