The Escondido Humane Society is the first and only San Diego County shelter to win a spot in the ASPCA $100K Challenge. From Aug. 1 to Oct. 31, EHS will compete to find homes for 33 percent more cats and dogs than it did during the same period in 2011. EHS is one of 49 shelters participating nationwide, and the organization that achieves the greatest increase in lives saved will receive a $100,000 grant from the ASPCA.

The Escondido Humane Society must find homes for 1,358 animals to qualify for any of the grant prizes and has set a personal goal of 1,500 adoptions during the three-month competition. Adoption fees for all dogs and cats will be $25 throughout August, September and October, and plans for future promotions and specials are underway.
