Elks Lodge Providing Free Meals for Kids

The Poway lodge will host a free dinner once a month for area families.

WHAT’S COOKIN’ AT THE ELKS CLUB?

What’s cooking is a free monthly evening meal for kids ages 4-18 in the back room of the Elks Lodge during the school year. This is a result of an Elks National Foundation annual grant of $1,000, intended as an ongoing charitable project.

The Elks Club is in close proximity to , and they want to make sure everyone there is getting a warm, nutritious meal every night. Doors will be open from 5-8 p.m. the second Monday of every month, beginning Aug. 8.

Parents are encouraged to join their kids. The Elks are also providing the room for the kids to do their homework, and they have arranged for a guest speaker once a month. The first speaker is Deputy Mayor Jim Cunningham.

BINGO!

The is hosting its 10th annual Bingo Tournament Fundraiser on Sunday, Aug. 5 from 1 to 5 p.m. It’s open to the public and all players must be over 18. All proceeds support the Poway Senior Center programs and services. $15 before Aug. 1. Twenty-one game buy-in for $30. Lunch is $5.00 with a pre-order. NOTHING BUT BLUE SKY

We mostly try to avoid them. This Saturday at 8:30 p.m., the will host Insects at Night. Entomologists, docents and city staff will help you capture, identify and release back into the wild many of Blue Sky’s nightmare inhabitants. Entomologist Mike Klein will kick off the evening with a short presentation on bugs and beasties before heading into the reserves. It will be a good time for all ages. Dress warmly and carry a flashlight. Registration is required and admission is $3. Register here online or in person at City Hall.

BOWLING FOR HEALTHCARE

A reminder, the day-long bowling party to raise funds to build the Martin and Delia Gold health center in Poway is this Sunday at . Tickets are $20, including two games and shoe rental. Get details by calling the Poway Fun Bowl at 858-748-9110.
