Annual 'Bark at the Park' Raises Funds for Children's Hospital

The event draws together both four-legged and two-legged Powegians for a good cause.

SMELLS LIKE BARBECUE

The weather cleared just in time for The Rotary Club of Poway's 23rd annual BBQ and Auction in the Pavilion at Lake Poway on Sunday. Plenty of barbecued steak and chicken, live music from the Scripps Ranch Jazz Band and Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Russell Shed, and our esteemed auctioneer Jim Tom Cavanaugh, made sure the club raised what it needed for another year of “giving back” to the community and its projects around the world.

BARK AT THE PARK

The Poway Dog Park was crowded with both two- and four-legged creatures on Saturday for the Kiwanis and Poway News Chieftain-sponsored Bark at the Park.  The event raised money for Children's Hospital through vendors and the many doggy competitions. Check out the photo to see my boy “Bear” getting some love from past Kiwanis President Bob Krans.

RB CHORALE

Also on Saturday, finalists for the annual RB Chorale scholarship program performed before a distinguished panel of judges. The chorale has given nearly $300,000 in awards to PUSD seniors since its inception. The RB Chorale, under the direction of Pat Bean, will present its 37th spring show, From Disney to Broadway, on Friday, June 10, and Saturday, June 11, at the Poway Center for Performing Arts.
