Abraxas High Students to Host Blood Drive
This week's Poway Gives Back includes blood, a talented 9-year-old and Panda Express.
ABRAXAS HIGH SCHOOL WANTS YOUR BLOOD
'Tis the season and is getting ahead of all the ghouls by hosting its semi-annual blood drive Tuesday. Blood can be donated anytime from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the school's campus.
POWAY YOUTH DEBUTS MOVIE AT ULTRA STAR
Have you heard the one about the 9-year-old who has published four books plus a 64-minute movie and they're available on Amazon? That part is not fiction. Tierra Bonita Elementary fourth grader Jarod Bainbridge is giving back to his school with your help. Along with fellow students, Jarod has turned his book, “Jake Peterson and His (not so secret) Admirer” into a movie and it will be screened, along with Dreamworks “Puss In Boots," at on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 9:15 a.m. Net proceeds will be donated to Tierra Bonita Elementary for a future digital library. For more information check out Jarod's website.
BE A FIRST RESPONDER
The Poway Neighborhood Emergency Corps is training volunteers for emergencies. Are you in? Occasionally, the little "City in the Country" experiences a serious wildfire or other natural issue. We have benefited in the past from local residents who have stepped up to help those in need. Poway Councilwoman Merrilee Boyack wants to make sure that kind of giving back continues. The first orientation meeting of the emergency corp will be Wednesday, Oct. 26. For more information email Boyack at maboyack@gmail.com and visit PNEC’s website.
IT'S ON THE PANDA
The Chaparral Educational Foundation continues its fund-raising activities with the help of Panda Express (11986 Bernardo Plaza Drive). Dine at Panda Express on Wednesday, Oct. 26, and 20 percent of your purchase will go to the foundation. Download this flier and take it with you. I like the orange chicken.
