Stoney B. Blues Band to Perform at Lake Poway

The local blues band will perform for Sharp Memorial Hospital's Summer Concert Series.

Dynamic licks and guitar riffs are not in short supply when it comes to the Chicago and Southern-style blues music of this local band. The Stoney B. Blues Band will give a summer performance from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, at .

“No matter where we go, people seem to enjoy what we do and the way that we do it because it’s really raw and it’s fun to listen to listen to and very entertaining,” lead vocalist Michael Stone said.

Stone said they pick songs based on the vibes from audience.

“It’s all coming from what I feel from the audience. I’m very spontaneous. The band has a wide repertoire of songs that we do,” Stone said.

But some signature songs the band may play include “Living Proof,” “Playing with My Friends,” “Find Another Fool” and “Sweet Home Chicago.”

The band plays at a variety of venues, such as the local Elks, The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations. They also do private parties and concerts.

“Whenever I get on stage, it doesn’t matter where I’m at. I’m just me and I just play. I’m a blues man. Usually, the way that I feel comes out in my music,” Stone said.

Stone has been a musician for 45 years and his local six-member band formed over two years ago.

“I’ve been playing in bands ever since I was 13 years old,” Stone said. “I’ve had the Stoney B. Blues band in six different cities. Every time I relocate, I form a new band.”

Stone was born and raised in Chicago. He is also a Hurricane Katrina survivor and veteran. Two other band members are also veterans.

“I was a bass guitar player until I went into the Army,” Stone said. “When I went into the army, I bought an electric guitar because I love the sound of Jimi Hendrix and B.B. King.”

He plans to produce an original CD called “Big Sweet Daddy Peaches” by the end of the year.

“Big Sweet Daddy Peaches is a character (who) is a blues man. He’s not a musician, but he likes to listen to the blues and he’s a ladies man.”
