Stand and Be Counted in Substance Abuse Battle

January 19th meeting to discuss substance abuse in Poway. But this isn't another "go to hear the leaders" meeting. This is the time for YOUR voice, concerns and ideas to be heard.

In 2010 and 2011 according to Sheriff’s Dept statistics there were 368 arrests of Poway juveniles on drug or alcohol related charges. That’s one arrest every other day, on average.

During the same period there were 26 arrests at Poway High School of students possessing drugs or under the influence.  That’s one arrest every 13 school days on average - at just one high school!

Most tragic, drugs or alcohol have been a factor in the deaths of three Poway High School students in the last three years.

And while the City, the school district, law enforcement and others have made good faith attempts to fight substance abuse, the bad news is we still have a serious problem.

The good news? We’re calling in the ‘cavalry’ - YOU, the people of Poway.

Poway Community Leadership Institute and the Rotary Club of Poway have scheduled a Town Meeting - a community conversation to be held 7PM January 19th at Templar’s Hall in Old Poway Park.

We’ve invited the Mayor, City Council members, city staff, Poway Unified School District board members and staff, law enforcement and others. But this isn’t a “go to hear the leaders” meeting. This is an opportunity for your voice, your concerns and your ideas to be heard.

Time and again you’ve demonstrated a willingness to tackle any problem - especially one that strikes so close to the values we hold dear: family, community and safety. Your help is needed now more than ever - our kids' lives and our community's safety are at stake.

Be part of this important community conversation. Stand and be counted! If we take up this cause together we’ll bring a tenacity and creativity to battling substance abuse that no other community could hope to muster.

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
