Titans Start Slow Before Defense Keys 45-14 Win Over Westview
Two quick scores before halftime and a 28-point third quarter keep No. 2 Poway unbeaten at 6-0-1.
Poway High scored 28 points in the third quarter Friday night to turn a close game into a rout as the No. 2-ranked Titans pulled away to a 45-14 Palomar League victory over visiting Westview.
Poway (6-0-1, 2-0) trailed 7-3 with less than two minutes left in the half before Gabriel Isaak hit Dillon McMahon on an 18-yard scoring pass. The Titan defense held and Ryan Sharpe returned a punt 59 yards for a TD to give Poway a 17-7 lead at the break.
Derek Babiash returned an interception 55 yards for a score and Tyler Kasl had a 24-yard fumble return for a TD in Poway’s big third quarter. Westview (6-2, 2-1) had not allowed an opponent more than 17 points this season before meeting the Titans.

TORREY PINES 28, RANCHO BERNARDO 21
Torrey Pines was down 21-7 at the half but ran the ball on all 35 of its plays in the second half, scoring with 27 seconds left in the game on a 2-yard run by Andrew Fargo for the Palomar League victory.

After trailing 7-0, the Broncos (3-3, 0-1) ran off 21 straight points behind Trent Sessions, who connected on scoring strikes to Charles Ensley, Dejuan Hardy and Jake Arnell. Sessions threw for 275 yards, but the Falcons (3-4, 1-1) held RB on downs with 6:18 to play, then went 73 yards on 14 running plays fro the go-ahead score.
OCEANSIDE 21, RAMONA 17
Ramona built a 17-0 lead in the second quarter but Oceanside was able to cap a comeback when quarterback Tofi Paopao scrambled for a 26-yard touchdown with 1:54 to play for the nonleague win.
The Bulldogs (1-6) had No. 4 Oceanside (5-1-1) on the ropes by controlling the ball for much of the first half with a ground game led by Kirk Kaliszewski, who scored on runs of 2 and 3 yards after long, time-consuming drives. The Pirates were able to limit Ramona to under 75 yards in the second half.
CARLSBAD 21, EL CAMINO 6
Quarterback Tanner Wrisley connected on a pair of touchdown passes, including an 80-yard scoring play to Saul Paleo, and Carlsbad capitalized on El Camino turnovers in an Avocado West win in Oceanside.
The Lancers (5-2, 1-1) also benefited from a solid ground game behind Shawn Cameron, who had 30 carries for 147 yards and a TD. El Camino (3-4, 0-1) scored late in the second quarter on an 8-yard run by Xavier Finney, who rushed for 100 yards. Neither team scored in the second half.
LA COSTA CANYON 45, RANCHO BUENA VISTA 8
Quarterback Jake Sesti threw four touchdown passes, three of them to Jake Jackson, to carry La Costa Canyon to the Avocado West League victory over winless Rancho Buena Vista (0-7, 0-2) on homecoming night at LCC.
The Mavericks (5-2, 2-0), who have won four in a row, opened the scoring on a 31-yard pass play from Sesti to Jackson on the first play after a Ty Toolson interception. The same combo connected on a 51-yard TD later in the first quarter and a 13-yarder just before halftime for a 24-0 lead. Sesti, who also had a TD pass to Alex Collatos, was 7-of-9 for 168 yards.
LCC's Alex Kestler had two rushing touchdowns and 108 yards on six carries, including an 85-yard TD run in the game's final minute.
