Report: Spanos Shake-Up in the Plans for Chargers

NFL.com is reporting that Chargers President Dean Spanos will hand over control of football operations to son John Spanos.

The San Diego Chargers will play their last game of the season Sunday amid even more rumors about who will be leading the franchise next year—and years to come.

The fates of General Manager A.J. Smith and Head Coach Norv Turner have been determined, according to media reports, with both headed out the door following Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders.

Adding fuel to the fire is a story NFL.com published Saturday that reports Chargers Chairman and President Dean Spanos will have his duties taken over by his son John Spanos in “a few years.” John Spanos is currently director of college scouting for the Chargers, and his brother A.G. Spanos handles the business side of the team as CEO.

Family patriarch Alex Spanos, Dean’s father, bought the team in 1984, and Dean has been in charge of football operations since 1994.

It's a season late but good news. How about getting Bobby or Marty back.

But they are bold

When this happens my only hope is that sometimes personalities jump generations in the gene pool. Alex Spanos was a hard nosed man. Dean is way too passive, not a self made man. Hopefully, John has his grandpa's personality and won't put up with seasons like we experienced this year. Everyone in San Diego knew what would happen his year with Norv and A.J. at the helm but passive Dean Spanos. Alex NEVER would have let it happen.

True Jay, If they go to L.A. Oakland is looking for a home, Just look around town at the Raider Nation stickers on local vehicles. They would have a better fan base than the chargers now do to start with ! It could happen ! in the NFL anything is possiable !!!
