Poway Rodeo Thrills Sell-Out Crowd

A variety of kids' and professional events entertained spectators at the Poway Valley Riders Association Grounds.

The 39th annual Poway Rodeo drew enthusiastic crowds at the Poway Valley Riders Association grounds Friday and Saturday. It included a sell-out crowd on opening night, officials said.

The rodeo featured youth events such as mutton busting and junior barrel racing in addition to bareback riding, tie-down roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding.

Saturday's crowd gathered in the shade of the grandstand tree to cope with warm temperatures. The 2011 Poway Rodeo queens were Brittney Phillips, Bridgette LaHaye and Halie Winder.
