Poway Girls Fall to San Diego in Basketball Semis

The 72-58 loss means the Titans will miss the Division I final for the first time in four years.

Defending Division I champion San Diego High broke Poway's string of three straight appearances in the girls basketball title game with a 72-58 triumph Tuesday night that puts the second-seeded Cavers in Saturday's final against 2009 champ and No. 1 seed La Costa Canyon.

The third quarter proved the Titans' downfall. Trailing just 32-30 at the half, third-seeded Poway, which finishes the season 25-5, was outscored 21-11 to fall behind 53-41 entering the final eight minutes.

Senior Katie Kuklok had 21 points and eight rebounds in her final game for Poway. Taylor Carter added 14 points and Alexa Brunansky added 10. San Diego (26-5) was led by Tia Dixon with 28 points and Amie Callaway with 16.
