CIF Baseball: RB Drops Poway into Elimination Bracket

Broncos get home runs from Katoh and Homick in a 9-1 win that sends RB to the semifinal round.

Rancho Bernardo High picked on Palomar League nemesis Poway to advance to the semifinals of the CIF San Diego Section baseball playoffs, and the two could meet once again on Tuesday.

Friday's 9-1 victory over the Titans gives top-seeded RB (25-6) a home game on Tuesday against the winner of Saturday's elimination game between Poway (23-9) and Vista (11 a.m. at La Costa Canyon). Even if the Broncos were to lose on Tuesday, they would play again Thursday for a berth in next Saturday's championship game.

Max Homick homered, drove in three runs and pitched a complete-game six-hitter for the Broncos, who used a five-run second inning to erase a 1-0 deficit. Gosuke Katoh also homered for RB, with Branden Berry adding two runs batted in to the cause.
