Chargers Must Sell 12,000 Tickets to Avoid Blackout

Fans could possibly see the third blackout this season if enough tickets aren't sold.

The San Diego Chargers announced Tuesday that 12,000 tickets for Sunday's home game against the Cincinnati Bengals need to be sold to avoid a local television blackout.

If they aren't sold by early Thursday afternoon, the telecast would be blacked out in Southern California for the second week in a row under National Football League policy. Pricier club level seats are exempted from the NFL's television rules.

It would be the third time this season local fans would not be able to see a Chargers home game. Interest has waned during a 4-7 season and fan frustration over an off-season decision by team president Dean Spanos to retain coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith.

Last week's 16-13 overtime loss to Baltimore and an early season 27-3 setback to Atlanta were also unavailable on local television. Ticket purchases by area companies helped the Chargers avoid a fourth blackout, against Kansas City.

If the Chargers cant field a team that can energize the fans than they should by the tickets. This has been a train wreck in the making since they fired Shotenhymer. Though that wont happen this year because now theyre playing for nothing and nobody cares..

RED ZONE ALL THE WAY! Just as soon as they get rid of Rivers and a couple of coaches, they might have a chance to sell a few more tickets but probably still not enough.

Why spend money on a ticket for such a lousy team that can not wine games.

Why am I not surprised you would align yourself with the good folks in San Francisco?

I have better things to do than watch that product.

The Chargers suck! They will always suck regardless of a new head coach, fresh draft picks and new veteran players. Who cares If the games are blacked out, there gonna probably loose in an embarrassing manor anyway.

Maybe San Diego doesn't deserve to have an NFL team with all of these pessimistic bandwagon fans
