School Board Will Vote on New Budget, Increased Funding for School 39

Poway Unified officials are expected to consider adopting a proposed budget for the next school year, 2013-14, as well as making an amendment to the final "guaranteed maximum price," (GMP) for the district's new School 39.

The proposed budgets are on the agenda for Monday's PUSD board meeting, set for 6 p.m. at the district office, 15250 Avenue of Science, San Diego.

According to PUSD, the 2013-14 budget projections have added in Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), which generates an additional approximate revenue of $6.6 million for the district.

On June 17, the Superintendent’s School Finance Committee met to receive an update on the second bond issuance needed to fully fund School 39, located across the street from Del Norte High School, as directed at the Special Board meeting on Feb. 25.

The district has three options to finance School No. 39:

  • Available cash balances
  • Special Tax Bonds from Community Facilities District
  • Some type of bond associated with CFD No. 15.
The board will vote on Monday to modify the lease-build contract documents to reflect the Final GMP of $57.5 million, a $1.5 million increase from the original GMP due to changes in structural, fire, life safety, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) design concerns and is dictated by the Division of the State Architect (DSA).

Also on the agenda:
  • Student, school and staff recognition.
  • Student Awards for Academic Achievement—Scholarships 2012-13 .
  • Naming of School 39.
