School Board Holding All-Day Special Workshop

The new school, fundraising and employee contracts are on the agenda.

The board of the has scheduled a special meeting/workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the district office, 15250 Avenue of Science, San Diego.

On the agenda (full agenda attached):

  • School No. 39 presentation: An as-yet unnamed K-8 campus is in the works near Del Norte High School, set to open in the fall of 2014. Last month, the board chose Oak Valley Middle School Principal Sonya Wrisley to head the new school. Starting July 1, Wrisley will begin working on plans for the campus, which is expected to be technology driven. During Tuesday’s presentation, project architects will discuss the latest design plans and how they will mitigate traffic concerns in the area, said district spokeswoman Sharon Raffer. The presentation is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
  • PUSD Foundation presentation: Over the past few years, the foundation has been working to shift its fundraising strategies away from labor-intensive and expensive events and toward new ways to raise funds, Executive Director Kathleen Porter told Patch. This year, the foundation brought in two consultants to help with traditional fundraising strategy and building corporate sponsorships. The foundation is scheduled discuss these changes with the board at 10 a.m., Porter said.
  • Contract Proposal for SEIU, Local 221: The board will vote on an initial proposal from the district to the Service Employees International Union, Local 221. The three-year proposal allows for wage and benefits reoopeners in 2013-14 and 2014-15. The current contract expires June 30.
