Win Your Own Health: State-Wide Health Insurance Lottery

We have a cash lottery that can spring a few to wealthy heights.

So why not an opportunity to spring more than a few to stability? It is a matter of life and of death. I have heard of a number of people who have been driven to bankruptcy and lost everything (including their lives) because of medical bills and an inability to sustain economically and medically. One might successfully guess that most of these people were poor or middle class, largely because of their lack of access to preventative care and so forth.

For $1, a health care lottery entry would bring in money to the State not solely from those without health care but those who have existing health care that this can then augment. That money would go back into the operation, go into better health care options and help drive down the costs of health care overall. The deductible would be covered as part of the lottery win and as well a predetermined number of copays. Drug prescriptions are debatable.

I could see pros and cons so I welcome a discussion on that.  It may not solve all our problems but it is a step in the right direction.

Afterall, California was not built in a day. What are your thoughts? Between the low chance of winning a million and a moderate chance at winning health care, I choose my health. You have nothing if you don't have your health.
