What Does a 'Fully Funded Education' Mean to You?

An attack on education is an attack on the future. Secure tomorrow by securing the classroom.

I see politicians use the adjective "fully funded" with regards to their ideas to protect education. I presume, at the very least that means no more cuts to education and we'll be building a reserve. But no one ever defines what that means or entails. Let alone in a recessionary economy when we are short on cash as a state.

To me, fully funded means funding levels to when our state was Number One in terms of education and scaling that to be relevant to today and on top of that building in a reserve for the future decade.

But that would no doubt mean having to increase or at least mean maximizing our revenue and through law protecting where our monies are being channeled by ensuring they go to education only.

In a fully funded world, I envision classrooms with technology allowing students to learn at their own pace and terms through such tools as Khan Academy or other multimedia experiences with teachers there able to give each student more attention by focusing their efforts on making sure they stay on track and correcting them when students ask or clearly need advice. Teacher salaries are increased and their job satisfaction so too increases. Efficiencies result. Fulfillment on all ends should be the goal because that has always been a key part of being alive, basic fulfillment.

But today, teachers are exhausted with large classrooms, a lack of resources and are paid far below what they contribute in terms of our economy's sweat equity. I say that because if it were not for teachers we would not be able to continuously produce smart and talented people who harness their potential in smart and talented ways. And yet those that stand out amongst the rich are not teachers but those rewarded for their beauty or their ability to entertain us. And we fund that habit when we cut funding for education.
