Supes Ask Staff to Update Disaster Plan, Cite Wildfires

San Diego County officials will examine past disasters to create the "Advanced Post-Disaster Recovery Initiative."

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors asked staffers Tuesday for an updated disaster relief plan.

Labeled the "Advanced Post-Disaster Recovery Initiative," the plan would be derived from lessons learned from the 2003 and 2007 wildfires that devastated Poway and other parts of the region. It would also examine the recent earthquakes in Japan and Haiti.

"Our goal is to be the best prepared we can be,'' said Supervisor Dianne Jacob, who represents Poway.
