Supervisors Approve $2.8M Purchase of Additional Sycamore Canyon Space

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors signed off Wednesday on the $2.8 million purchase of open space on the north end of the 2,300-acre Sycamore Canyon Preserve.

The 112.78 acres along Goodan Ranch near Scripps Poway Parkway has a network of trails, is a prime habitat of the California gnatcatcher and has "world-class" terrain for mountain biking, according to Supervisor Dianne
Jacob, who represents the area.

Trails on the property will connect to others that go to Poway and Santee, and will eventually provide access to the San Diego River regional trail network, according to county documents.

Funding for the purchase will come from the county's Multiple Species Conservation Program, augmented by a $200,000 state grant.

Approval was unanimous, without comment, as part of the board's consent agenda.
