Feinstein Says Bills to Ban Assault Weapons Will Be a Priority

The California senator tells “Meet the Press” that bills will be introduced on the first day Congress returns.

Bills to return a ban on assault weapons in the United States will be introduced in both the Senate and House of Representatives on the first day they are in session next month, California Sen. Dianne Feinstein vowed on national television Sunday.

“We’ve tried to take my bill from ’94 to 2004 and perfect it,” the California Democrat said on the NBC “Meet The Press” program.

Feinstein authored a federal ban on assault weapons in 1994, a ban that was allowed to expire by Congress during the George W. Bush administration. On NBC today, Feinstein agreed with gun control proponent Michael Bloomberg, the New York mayor, who said he wants “weapons of war off the streets of our cities.”

On the NBC program, California’s senior senator said her lawyers have carefully crafted a constitutional bill that will “exempt over 900 specific weapons that will not ... fall under the bill.”

She said the 1994 assault rifle bill that she wrote was never challenged in court by the National Rifle Association.

“Back in ’93, when I told Joe Biden who was chairman of the Judiciary Committee that I was going to move this as an amendment on the Crime Bill, he laughed at me,” Feinstein said.

“He said, ‘you’re new here. Wait till you learn,’ ” Feinstein related.

“And we got it through the Senate, we got it through the House, the White

House came alive and ... the bill was passed.”

The NRA has declined to comment on gun issues since Friday’s slaying of 20 grade school children and seven adults in Connecticut.

Police have said the children were shot multiple times in rapid succession, but have not said if the murder weapons had been in automatic mode—illegal under current laws—or semi-automatic mode—possibly illegal under the 1994 law.

Feinstein, who just won her fourth Senate election, was propelled to the forefront of California politics when she suddenly became mayor of San Francisco when two politicians were murdered there in 1978. She has been a leading voice for gun control since then.

Feinstein’s quotes were transcribed by NBC News.

Touché Shame. I am on as much as you, yesterday and today. Unfortunately, there is nothing worth viewing on TV so I turn to "Patch" for my comedic relief which you so obligingly provide. My thanks to you. Oh, and before I forget, Merry Christmas.
By the way, what lies have I allegedly said/told about you?

You stated... . . snoopy 9:33 am on Friday, December 21, 2012 "The fact Obama has murdered more people than bush including innocent children" . . So I'll ask again, what do you think had more collateral damage - Obama's drone strikes or the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan?

2:44 pm on Friday, December 21, 2012 "Bush was a war monger too, but didn't hide it nor did the main stream media hide it. Obama is the president now, and he hides behind the media and pretends to be someone he is not." . . What is he pretending to be and what is the media hiding? If we both know that there are drone strikes and there more than during the Bush administration, what is being hidden?

2:44 pm on Friday, December 21, 2012 " don't claim to be an expert but special forces should be used more often, to spare the lives of innocent men women and children." . . What makes you think that using actual forces will do any more to protect the lives of innocent men, women and children. Do you think that they are going to conduct an investigation before they kill their target? What do you think the reaction of the locals is going to be when they see American troops on their soil? And again, why put these troops in danger?

The comment about Japan not invading the US because everyone was armed is completely bogus, right wing, NRA propaganda that's been spun to fit their radical agenda. You will NEVER hear the unvarnished truth from Rush Limbaugh or Roger Ailes (Fox News). Roger and Rush plot daily what they wish to cover and the Conservative spin they will use to deceive their viewers and listeners. They have been doing it for years. They are supreme fear mongers and TRUE ENEMIES of AMERICA. The NRA is nothing but a domestic terrorist organization.
Lyn December 22, 2012 at 01:51 am
I agree completely. It's interesting how some people can see the truth and others can't or won't . Thanks.

I say ban private ownership of ALL guns. Police and licensed security personel only. Hunters don't even need to own guns. Guns could be made available to hunters on a rental basis. They only use them a fews days each year anyway. Hunters should be licensed and insured. ANY gun owner should be licensed AND insured. You can bet that insurance companies will be more thorough and more careful about who they insure. We don't need guns. Any criminal committing a crime using a gun should go to jail for a very long time. Anyone caught with an illegal firearm goes to jail. I know all of the arguments against it but they are all bull shit. Yes, people will still be killed. There are many ways to kill someone but if we outlaw guns that will go a very, very long way towards stopping "gun violence" in our society. As far as the Second Amendment goes, The Constitution is an imperfect document. It has been amended many, many times which readily attests to it's imperfections and shortcomings. The Second amendment is NOT sacrosanct. The NRA and the irrational gun fanatics in our society have been using it as a shield for way too long. It's time to get rid of guns.

I just read some of the filth coming from your brain Shane. You have issues. Spreading your hate like butter on a summer day. This whole thread is about you fighting and spewing out hate, claiming you know how to find people from this thread etc....Just delete yourself from talking, before you get in legal trouble threatening people.

WOW!!!! I'm just now finding this little nugget that Jeff "InShane" Kleiner has left behind. So now your back to me being Roy? Wait, wait, wait......earlier in this very thread you claimed I was Kelly Seyarto. In fact you claimed on 12/17 I had been using a city computer from Inglewood & had contacted the HR dept. You also claimed to have a letter from the City of Irwindale stating that I wouldn't be posting anymore. Also you claimedyou had your attorney was handling all this. LOL, LOL, LOL,.....Poor sad Jeff Kleiner. My first question is which lie would you like us to believe? Which City did you contact Irwindale or Inglewood? Am I Kelly or Roy? You have a letter proving who I am? That "your attorney" did anything more than take your money & laugh all the way to the bank & give you junk info?
Your lies & antagonistic ways completely void any valid input you may bring to a discussion Jeff. The only coherent things you ever post are copy & pasted from articles you plagiarize & don't even credit. Other than that it's all hate, bigotry, & antagonizing. Try & be a decent human & maybe people would take you seriously instead of being a joke.

Why such a selective demand to end just gun violence I think we need to take a stand against ALL violence don't play favorites are you in bed with Big Knife?
Things I Learned December 23, 2012 at 03:42 am
No its a real problem I'm totally serial I like guns as much as the next person if the next person is Charlton Heston but the NRA needs to get real here is the New York Times explaining what is wrong with their approach:
"Mr. LaPierre offered no support for any of the proposals made in the last week, like banning assault rifles or limiting high-capacity ammunition, and N.R.A. leaders declined to answer questions." http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/22/us/nra-calls-for-armed-guards-at-schools.html?hp&_r=1&pagewanted=all&; It's bad enough that any three time felon can walk in off the street and buy high-magazine clips no questions asked but if they get their hands on some high capacity ammo too it'll be like crossing the streams we can't afford to take the chance and if they somehow get a hold of gutta percha grips for the slide suppressor it will be too late how many people have to die before we listen to the media?
Eugene Gannon December 23, 2012 at 11:47 am
I just started a gun violence petition on the White House petitions site, We the People. Will you sign it? http://wh.gov/Q2v3

I media star's capital is their connection to their fans. That is why they make a good "face" for an issue. Why have them work behind the scenes? I also fail to see how this gives the right wing any fire power.

Don't forget DHMO, the Invisible Killer. From the DHMO awareness website:
"Dihydrogen monoxide is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and kills uncounted thousands of people every year. What are the dangers of Dihydrogen Monoxide? Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death. Dihydrogen Monoxide Facts Dihydrogen monoxide: --is also known as hydric acid, and is the major component of acid rain. --contributes to the Greenhouse Effect. --may cause severe burns. --contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape. --accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals. --may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes. --has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients." http://www.dhmo.org/truth/Dihydrogen-Monoxide.html
