Redistricting Committee to Present Supervisors With 3 Plans

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors will be presented Tuesday with three proposed plans for re-mapping their districts.

The plans, which are similar, would push the currently landlocked district of Supervisor Ron Roberts toward the coast and knock Pam Slater-Price out of La Jolla.

While, other districts would remain about the same as they are now. In the North County, the proposed area covered by Chairman Bill Horn would extend from Camp Pendleton and Carlsbad east through his home turf of Valley Center to rural northeast San Diego County. Dianne Jacob would continue representing the Poway and East County areas while Greg Cox would continue to have the South Bay, Coronado, downtown and Point Loma.

The redistricting committee members, who met 14 times, were tasked with redrawing district boundaries based on 2010 census data. The supervisors are scheduled to establish the new districts in votes upcoming in July and August. None of the supervisors have commented on the proposals pending Tuesday's meeting.

The supervisors will also consider the county's budget for the upcoming fiscal year and decide whether to have staff explore acquiring an electronic employment verification system, which will allow county officials to access Homeland Security and Social Security records before a new worker is hired.
