Property Taxes Due Monday

Around 513,000 bills in San Diego County remain unpaid as of last Wednesday.

The first installment of 2012-13 property taxes is due Monday, Dec. 10, for San Diego County landowners.

Of the 980,654 bills sent to landowners in September, around 513,000 remained unpaid as of last Wednesday, according to Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister.

Landowners were encouraged to pay online at sdtreastax.com, by phone at (855) 829-3773, or at any of the county's four branch locations. Payments may also be made at the main County Administration Building but parking at the downtown site is limited.

Starting last Thursday, the county began accepting ready-to-drop-off check payments curbside at the west end of the north parking lot. The county building's south parking lot is closed for construction of a new waterfront park.

McAllister suggested that property owners avoid the hassle of the downtown project and make payments at one of the branch offices, which offers extended hours Monday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The offices are located in Chula Vista, 590 Third Ave.; El Cajon, 200 S. Magnolia St.; Kearny Mesa, 9225 Clairemont Mesa Blvd.; and San Marcos, 141 E. Carmel St.

The branch offices do not accept cash payments. Cash, however, is accepted at the County Administration Building.

McAllister said the county expects a haul of $4.6 billion from property taxes this year.
