President Obama Nominates Powegian for Federal Judgeship

U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy Ann Bencivengo is nominated among three others.

San Diego-based U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy Ann Bencivengo was among three people nominated Wednesday by President Barack Obama for federal judgeships.

Bencivengo, who lives in Poway, has served as a magistrate judge for the Southern District of California since 2005.

Prior to donning a judge's robe, she spent her entire legal career at the law firm now known as DLA Piper US, LLP, beginning as a litigation associate in 1988—when the firm was known as Gray Cary Ames & Frye—and becoming a partner in 1996. At the law firm, her practice focused on intellectual property litigation and she served as national co-chair of the firm's patent litigation practice.
