Poway Residents Collecting Refunds on Storm Water Fees

Claims can be filed by residents and businesses until Oct. 18.

Poway residents and businesses received an unusual letter in the mail last December—a claim form for a refund of storm water fees.

The fee started appearing on bills issued by EDCO, the city’s trash collector, in 2008. In October 2011, the Poway City Council suspended the collection of the fee and began a procedure for residents and businesses to claim a refund of fees paid between November 2010 and October 2011.

So far almost $1 million has been refunded, and claims will be accepted until Oct. 18.
