Poway Volunteers Needed Before the Next Crisis Comes

The Poway Neighborhood Emergency Corps says some neighborhoods still need volunteers to lead during emergencies.

The newly formed Poway Neighborhood Emergency Corps is still in need of volunteers in 22 local neighborhoods.

The effort, which was launched by City Councilwoman Merrilee Boyack in light of the September blackout, hopes to appoint leaders in each neighborhood to guide Powegians in cases of emergencies. 

“We want each neighborhood to be prepared to care for one another,” said Boyack in an e-mail to Patch. “Having a volunteer coordinator will provide the leadership for the neighbors to get together and set up a plan for each particular neighborhood.

“We need to have every single neighborhood covered so that everyone can be part of this process of preparing our city for the next emergency.”
