The $200,850 comes from the California Department of Housing and Community Development.

Poway will receive $200,850 from the California Department of Housing and Community Development for a variety of improvements to be made at , including playground resurfacing, shade structure replacement, pedestrian bridge improvements, drainage enhancements, ball field renovations, senior center upgrades and landscaping additions.

Poway was one of 33 jurisdictions to receive the award under the Housing-Related Parks Program, which provides grants from Prop 1C funds and is designed to benefit jurisdictions that assist the development of affordable housing. Poway’s support of Brighton Place, an affordable housing rental complex in the area, which opened in February 2012, qualified the city to receive the grant.

Improvements to Community Park will benefit the widely used 22.5-acre park, which boasts public space, pathways and a variety of recreational facilities. Community Park is Poway’s most active park, offering 470 programs to over 4,800 participants annually. Improvements to Community Park are expected to begin this fall.
