Online Site Aims to Revive Debate Between Rep. Hunter and Challenger

But East County Magazine says GOP incumbent's camp has not responded to offer or questions.

East County Magazine, a non-profit online news site, has offered to host a debate between incumbent Rep. Duncan D. Hunter and Democratic challenger David Secor after earlier talks over a 50th Congressional District meeting ended with none scheduled.

“ECM … offered to host a debate at a date that suits [Hunter’s] schedule,” said a report posted Friday. “He did not reply.  Nor has the congressman been willing even to answer written questions on a list of general topics ranging from the economy to foreign policy.”

East County Magazine, edited by Miriam Raftery of Mount Helix, quoted Secor, a 65-year-old Crest resident, as saying: “I’m convinced that Hunter is hiding from the people of the district” and added that the two-term Republican, 35, is “afraid to take questions from voters because if people find out how extreme he is, they would not vote for him.”

Among other things, Secor has criticized Hunter for taking money from United Technologies, which “sold secret information to China that allowed them to build a helicopter that our troops may have to face in the future.”

Meanwhile, a newsletter of the La Jolla Republican Women’s Club Federated announced that Hunter would be its guest speaker at a lunchtime meeting Thursday at the La Jolla Country Club.

It's one of the unfortunate realities that we must depend on the voters instead of your incredible insight to select our representatives, but that's how it was set up. Had the founders known you would be here at this critical time they might have at least made an exception so you could clean house and the nation could get a fresh start. Two things should be noted. First, all this talk about the horrors imposed by the 1% on the 99% - The 99% would not be at the 1% if the 99% voted. And, if you think you are too smart or too sophisticated to engage the process and vote, you will definitely be governed by people that are much dumber and more 3-Stooge-alistic than you are. Not so smart.

You thought I was "better"? But you said I was "brainwashed." (Oh, dear...)
