North County LGBTQ Resource Center to Officially Open Sunday

North County LGBTQ Resource Center, 510 North Coast Highway, will hold its grand opening at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Poinsettias sit in front of the North County LGBTQ Resource Center. Inside, volunteers are putting up the finishing touches for the center that will also serve Poway residents.

"It's a holiday affair," said Max Disposti, executive director of the North County LGBTQ Coalition, 510 North Coast Highway in Oceanside, which will open at 2 p.m.

The event will also serve as a fundraiser and an opportunity for members of the public to become members. Attendees will be able to buy the poinsettias and their children can have a picture taken with Santa Claus.

The 1000-square-foot facility will have a youth center, kitchen and meeting rooms and will host various support groups for both military members and civilians including some for those who plan to come out with their sexuality.

Disposti has plans to create an after-school resource center — complete with computers — for students.

“They can do the research they want to do, and feel safe, and meet other people," Disposti said.
