Nearly Two-Thirds of Property Tax Bills Unpaid

The second installment of property taxes is due April 10, but more than 60 percent of the installments remain unpaid, a county official said Monday.

About two-thirds of the second installment of property tax bills have not been paid in San Diego County, prompting Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister on Monday to urge landowners to file quickly so they don’t get caught up in a last-minute rush.

Almost 979,000 bills were mailed out and nearly 617,000 still have an unpaid installment, McAllister said. Payments are due by Saturday.

“Our branch offices are all ready to serve our taxpayers,” McAllister said. “We are expecting a busy week at the tax collector’s office because we have more than 60 percent left of the second installment to collect. Pay early and avoid the rush.”
