Former San Diego Councilwoman Endorses Saldaña for Congress

Donna Frye announced her support for Lori Saldaña, who is running to represent the district that includes Poway.

Former city of San Diego Councilwoman Donna Frye is backing Lori Saldaña for Congress, it was announced Friday.

Saldaña, a former state assemblywoman who is running for the newly drawn 52nd Congressional District that includes Poway, hopes to unseat Republican Brian Bilbray.

“I’m supporting Lori’s candidacy for Congress because she stands up for the public’s best interest while staying true to the community and her grassroots vision of government,” said Frye, who served on the San Diego City Council from 2001 to 2010.

“I first met Lori almost 20 years ago. We worked together on protecting and preserving our coastal resources, ensuring the public’s right to know and participate in government decision making, and electing people to office who shared those same values.”

Saldaña—who has also been endorsed by the Point Loma, La Jolla, Black Mountain, Pacific Beach and San Diego Democratic Women’s Club—said both her and Frye “appreciate the power of grassroots organizing and the importance of opening the closed doors of decision making to public view.”
