Fletcher to Run for Mayor of San Diego

The state assemblyman will make his official announcement on Monday.

Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher has announced that he is running for mayor of San Diego in 2012, joining a field that already includes San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio and District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis. Current Mayor Jerry Sanders is unable to run due to term limits.

Fletcher was elected to the State Legislature in 2008 and , and his 75th district includes parts of Poway, Escondido and San Diego. The 34-year-old served eight months in Iraq with the Marine Corps in 2004 and was the first combat veteran of the war on terror to be elected to the legislature, according to his State Assembly website.

Fletcher’s campaign website says he intends to hold an official announcement on Monday at 10 a.m. at NuVasive Inc., 7475 Lusk Blvd. in Sorrento Valley.
