Council to Consider Ordinance for New Building Codes

Council members will examine the 2010 edition of the California Building Standards Code, which includes green building requirements among its changes.

A light agenda is in store Tuesday for City Council members, who will be asked to consider an ordinance to adopt the state's new building codes.

The ordinance—which asks that the city replace its 2007 edition of the California Building Standards Code with the 2010 version—will update several chapters of the Poway Municipal Code with the state mandate that went into effect Jan. 1.

According to the report, two new mandatory codes were included: the California Residential Code and the California Green Building Standards Code.

The adopted code, which is published by the California Building Standards Commission, also includes the 2010 California Green Building Code, which "requires more sustainable construction to reduce the negative impacts on the environment." In compliance with the California Green Building Code, City Council will also be asked to adopt a resolution implementing a new Master Fee Schedule with new fees changing on Sept. 17.

The ordinance will be introduced for its first reading with a recommendation to adopt at the City Council meeting on Aug. 2.

  • A request to improve a tributary along Rattlesnake Creek between Kentfield Drive and Norwalk Street.
