'Beware the Fiscal Cliff:' Local Democrats Plan Rally in Support of Obama

A local "Beware the Fiscal Cliff" gathering is tentatively scheduled to take place from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28 at the corner of Margarita and Winchester roads in Temecula.

A rally in support of President Barack Obama's efforts in the face of the so-called impending federal "fiscal cliff" is being planned for Friday in Temecula.

The event is being headed up by a local chapter of Organizing for America (OFA) volunteers and the Democratic Club of Southwest Riverside County.

"As we settle down after the election, and finish up our holiday functions, we shouldn't forget that the Congress still has not resolved the current 'crisis,'" said rally organizer Kathy Katz. "The President needs our support as he tries to make sure the 98 percent making under $250,000 do not suffer because Republicans won't commit to retaining Bush Tax Cuts without retaining tax cuts for the top 2 percent."

President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were scheduled to meet Friday afternoon at the White House with Congressional representatives from both sides of the aisle in an attempt to continue negotiations as the Jan. 1, 2013 deadline approaches, according to news reports.

In Temecula, the gathering was tentatively scheduled to take place from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28 at the corner of Margarita and Winchester roads. Attendees should park in the WinCo parking lot at 40435 Winchester Road, organizers said.

The two groups said they will proceed with the rally if enough volunteers step up to participate.

Those willing to join in were asked to contact Kathy Katz at 909-227-1553 or kkatz@iinet.com.

Democrats and Republicans should not be railing against each other, we should be demanding much better than we are getting out of our elected officials.

Just my 2 cents, I think we should go over the Cliff. The Fiscal cliff was created by Congress by spending money they didnt have, By way of background information, The budgets were based on Projected surplus in GDP and the surplus never came to pass.but the money was spent before it was made. The U.S. should balance their budgets and pay their bills, ( Limit Debit Spending and pay off the National Debit ) The United States needs to spend money ( resources) based on what it Has and not what it might have. Gun Control: We must do something to stop the Newtown type tragedies . Perhaps, by Federal law making other states follow the existing gun back ground checks, Closing the Gun Show loop holes. Making it easier for families to get Medical help for a Mentally challenged member. Ban Large capacity gun magazines . As a Veteran, I support the 2nd Amendment, but I don't think that a Citizen should be as well armed as the Police or the Military. Lastly, Shouldn't we organize to protect our schools ? We have a Neighborhood Crime Watch shouldn't we have a Neighborhood School Watch ? It wouldnt cost anything. Just Volunteers from Retirement age people with cell phones. ( giving the police added response time)
