Vehicle Crashes Into Credit Union; Security Guard Injured

A 78-year-old man was taken to the hospital after crashing into the building, but reported no injuries.

A security guard at Mission Federal Credit Union was injured Monday after a vehicle crashed into the building, traffic Sgt. David Cheever said.

According to the sheriff's department, around 2:10 p.m., two cars were backing up at the same time in the parking lot of the credit union, located at 13465 Poway Rd.

A 78-year-old man in a Toyota Camry quickly accelerated to avoid hitting the other car and hit a support column on the building at a "high rate of speed," Cheever said.

A 61-year-old security guard was knocked to the ground, according to Cheever, but it is unclear if the car hit the man. He complained of back pain, cuts and bruises and was transported to a hospital, according to authorities.

The driver of the Camry reported no injuries, but was taken to the hospital to be evaluated, according to Cheever. No information could be given about the other driver involved.

No citations were given, Cheever said, but the credit union building was damaged and decided to close for the remainder of the day.
