Taking a Bite Out of Crime: Deputies Awarded for Recovering Stolen Cars

The Auto Theft Advisory Committee recognized deputies that recovered the most stolen vehicles in 2012.

A sheriff’s deputy based at the Poway station with a knack for recovering stolen vehicles was honored recently by the Auto Theft Advisory Committee, a partnership between law enforcement, insurance and auto companies to reduce car theft.

Deputy Luis Carrillo was one of 10 deputies honored at a reception at the Prado at Balboa Park on March 20. A deputy from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station, Jeff Creighton, took the top honors with 52 stolen vehicles worth more than $200,000 recovered in 2012. Creighton arrested 14 suspected vehicle thieves last year.

Overall in San Diego County last year, law enforcement agencies recovered 629 stolen vehicles valued at $4,469,065 and arrested 110 suspects.
