Suspect Arrested in Poway Bank Robbery

A man suspected of robbing a Poway bank was arrested behind a Kearny Mesa strip club about an hour later, authorities said.

A man who allegedly robbed a bank in a supermarket near Spring Canyon Park Tuesday was arrested behind a Kearny Mesa strip club about an hour later.

The holdup at a Wells Fargo office in the Vons store on Scripps Poway Parkway in Miramar Ranch North occurred about 10:40 a.m. on Oct. 15, San Diego police said.

Witnesses described seeing the tall, muscular and bearded bandit fleeing in a small red car, possibly a Volkswagen GTI, SDPD public-affairs Officer Jim Johnson said.

Shortly before 11 a.m., police spotted a vehicle matching the description behind Cheetahs Gentlemen's Club in the 8100 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. They detained a man sitting in the car and brought in a bank employee who identified him as the robber, Johnson said.

The suspect was taken to SDPD headquarters for questioning. His name was unavailable pending booking.
