Standoff Suspect Booked on Three Felonies

David Becker, 53, is a felon and not permitted to possess firearms, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The Sheriff’s Department has released the name of the armed man involved in a in a home on Powers Road.

David Becker, 53, was taken into custody around 7 p.m. after the sheriff’s Crisis Negotiations Team persuaded him to put down the weapon and leave the home. Becker was evaluated at Pomerado Hospital then booked into the San Diego Central Jail on three felony weapons charges, including being a felon in possession of a weapon.

Deputies were called to the home in the 13700 block of Powers Road at 3:22 p.m. regarding an armed man threatening to end his life. When deputies arrived they saw Becker in the front entry of the home with a rifle, according to Sgt. Tim Matzkiw. Becker told deputies he wanted to end his life and would not be taken into custody alive. He also said that the home was bobby-trapped with explosives, Matzkiw said.

After Becker surrendered and was led away in handcuffs, Sheriff’s Bomb Arson checked the house and found no explosives. A bulletproof vest, numerous loaded firearms and ammunition were found in the home, Matzkiw said.

Becker’s bail has been tentatively set at $50,000. He has a court date scheduled on Friday.
