Updated 9:42 p.m. with new details about the man who allegedly assaulted the deputy.
A sheriff's deputy was injured in an altercation with a man who was later tasered at a Poway 7-Eleven said he had been drugged Monday, officials said.
The Poway Fire Department responded to the 7-Eleven at 13626 Pomerado Rd. just before 12:30 p.m. Monday amid reports of an altercation between a San Diego County sheriff's deputy and a man who is approximately 30 years old, Division Chief Kevin Hitchcock said.
Both the deputy and the man were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, Hitchcock said. A Sheriff's Department spokesman later confirmed that a deputy had used a Taser on the suspect, as had been reported by KFMB.
In a press release issued late Monday, the Sheriff's Department said the man who struggled with the officer told a co-worker he had been drugged and began acting "irrationally." When deputies arrived, the man became agitated and that's when the struggle began.
The man is expected to be charged with assaulting the deputy. The incident remains under investigation.
